CALL FOR PAPERS

Our workshop was initially organized in 1997 under the name (in Spanish language) "Taller de Ingeniería de Software" (Software Engineering Workshop). Some years later, in 2005, as part of the Mexican Conference (in Spanish language) "Encuentro Nacional de Computacion" (Now called Mexican International Conference on Computer Science ) our workshop acquired the category of Symposium. Since the beginning, the workshop has had the following objectives:

In Mexico, there are few professors and researchers specialized on the software engineering discipline, furthermore they are separated geographically. Since few years ago, this small group has carried out a great effort trying to brought up to date the software engineering education curricula, to make experimentations in undergraduate and graduate programs, and also offering training and advisory services for software industry.

Objectives:

-    To join the academic community who has novel proposals in software engineering education, research and experimentation.
-    To generate guidelines for software engineering curricula and courses contents.
-
To generate recommendations for the initiative (in Spanish language) “Programa Nacional de la Industria de Software” (National Program for Software Industry) sponsored by the (in Spanish language) “Secretaría de Economía de México” (Mexican Ministry of Economy).

Since 1997, former members of the software engineering group have carried out a great variety of activities, and some achievements have been obtained in the software engineering context. This fact has allowed former members to accomplish the original objectives established in the beginnings. Examples of the main achievements are: (1) The consolidation of the (in Spanish language) “Asociación Mexicana para la Calidad en Ingeniería de Software –AMCIS” (Mexican Association for Quality on Software Engineering), (2) The creation of the Moprosoft and Evalprosoft models, directed by Hanna Oktaba, (3) The contribution and support to the Prosoft program sponsored by the Mexican Ministry of Economy, (4) The creation of the Mexican NMX-059/01-NYSE-2005 standard. Other significant achievements are the recent participation in the Competisoft project in the Ibero-America context, and the Moprosoft model contribution to the international standard for very small businesses.

In the context of academy-industry alliances, also other achievements have been gained. Representative examples are: (1) Some national companies have adopted the Moprosoft model, (2) The convergence of industry people and university teachers in training courses, and (3) The articulation between industry and academy, which has been encouraged by regional Information Technology Clusters.

SES 08 will allow a more direct contact among academy and industry and the opportunity of:

·       To inform research advances on software engineering practices.
·       To know the real applications of theoretic knowledge.
·       To listen the necessities of industry and to know the tendencies in the real practice of software development.
·       To discuss the advances about standardization, models, professional profiles and curricula structures.
·     To define new perspectives and guidelines in software engineering practices.
